Join us for a wonderful evening of food, music and a visit to your children's classroom!

Program Agenda:
5:00 – 6:00 – Dinner and snack items will be on sale in food court

6:00 – 7:30 – Classrooms, science room, art room, library, plus musical performances in auditorium will be open for visitors.

6:00 – 7:10 – Choral Music performances by grade level in auditorium. This will not look like the Winter Concert. These will be separate performances with each grade level rotating in the auditorium. Only the kinder teachers will be walking their students to the auditorium. When the students finish their one song, the parents and students will leave to visit classrooms. They are also welcome to watch other grade levels perform.

Order of performances:

6:00 – Kinders

6:15 – 1^st grade

6:25 – 2^nd grade

6:35 - 3^rd grade

6:45 – 4^th grade

6:55 – Glee Club

7:05 – 5^th grade

For grades 1 – 5 and Glee Club:

It is the student (and parent) responsibility to go to the auditorium about 5 minutes before their performance time.

For Kindergarten:
Students should report to their classroom at 5:50. The teachers will assemble their students to perform but will not be responsible for them after the performance. The parents are to be responsible for them.

Concert Attire:
'60s-themed to go with the Beatles songs we will be singing. Feel free to be appropriately creative, but please do not feel the need to buy a new outfit for the occasion.

There will be an opportunity to pre-order DVD’s of the performances. Details will be upcoming.

Supper & Baked Goods Sale!
The Foundation will be offering parents and children light dinner options they can purchase prior to the start of the Open House & Spring Sing performances. Join us at 5:00 PM in the lunch arbor for dinner, desserts, and mingling! Cash is appreciated and all proceeds will benefit Torrey Pines Elementary School. Many thanks to our parents for their generous contributions and donations.

Baked Items and Volunteers Needed

We are in need of baked goods for our Open House & Spring Sing on May 23rd. There will be a huge turnout so more yummy treats the better.

May 23rd - Please drop off your baked goods before 4:00pm in the nurse's office.

Aside from our bake sale, we will also be selling a light dinner. Coffee and cocoa will also be served.

Volunteers are also needed to help at the food tables.

Thanks for being part of this fun night where our entire TPES community comes out.

Being on the Foundation Board is a great way to make a difference at Torrey Pines. It takes all of the below board positions to support Torrey Pines in being the wonderful community school that it is, but each of the below positions has different time commitments and job duties. Please read through the descriptions and see if one of the positions is something that would interest you.

The following positions are vacant and open for application, except for the positions of President and Treasurer. The position of Treasurer is a 2-year commitment, and the position of President requires the candidate to have at least one year's experience on the Board. Therefore, the candidate for President must come from the current Board. All Board positions require regular attendance at and participation in monthly Board meetings and TPESF sponsored activities. SSC/SGT Volunteers Needed for 2012-2013 School Year! (31 May 2012)

SSC/SGT VOLUNTEERS NEEDED!

Parent and community volunteers are needed to be part of the School Site Council (SSC) or Site Governance Team (SGT) for the 2012 – 2013 school year.

We hold joint open meetings the first Tuesday of every month at 8:00 in the morning. There are several positions opening up. These positions require a two year commitment.

The SSC and SGT committees consist of parents and staff members who meet and discuss the direction of Torrey Pines’ programs.

It is a great way to get involved and help make some of the very important decisions about your child’s education.

Spare the Air Day!

Spare the air day is a program to raise awareness about pollution. TPES students are encouraged to walk, ride their bikes, or carpool to school on the first Friday of the month. Students who participate will get a spare the air day stamp to start the day with a smile.

SPIRIT ASSEMBLY

The monthly Spirit Assembly is one way our school honors all children throughout the year. Each teacher recommends children based on academic or behavioral improvement. The child receives recognition and a certificate from Mr. Solo as Student of the Month in front of the assembly. Students are also recognized for milestones in their participation in Running Club. Parents are invited to come and watch.

The Foundation and parent volunteers organize a morning of fun track & field games for all TPES students. Games include hula hooping, baton races, water balloon relays and other fun competitions. All students receive ribbons and a snack after participating.

We do need a good team of volunteers to make this event run smoothly, so please consider spending an enjoyable couple hours watching your child participate and helping us with the events. You can sign up online to volunteer. Contact Jeni Lentin via email atkjlentin@att.net with any questions.

Introducing Exciting Summer Options At TPES

For Students Entering Grades 2-5 Next Year!

We will be offering a lower and upper grade enrichment option at TPES this summer.. The grade 2-3 option will have Mr. Luxon and Mrs. Gillespie as teachers and the upper grade option will have Mr. Ramirez and Mrs. Chiaro as teachers.

The session will run from June 18 – July 13 (no school on Wednesday, July 4^th). Time: 8:30 – 12:00. There is an arrangement with the Y to pick up and deliver children for daycare and camps.

The cost of the session is $325.00 per child.

Our two summer sessions are as follows:

Students going into grade 2 and 3:

Students will split their time between Mr. Luxon’s classroom and Mrs. Gillespie’s classroom.

In Mr. Luxon’s room students will read and study fairy tales before composing their own fairy tales using the classroom netbooks. Students will have the opportunity to create an interpretation of a famous fairy tale as well as attempt to compose a completely new one on their own. In addition to reading and writing students will be taught different art techniques so they can illustrate their writing.

In Mrs. Gillespie’s Room

We’ll have fun Theater games, Reader’s Theater and an end of session production.

Students going into grades 4 and 5:

Students will split their time between Mr. Ramirez’s classroom and Mrs. Chiaro’s classroom.

In Mr. Ramirez’s class students will participate in engaging math work. Students will be exposed to algebraic thinking and problem solving through real life activities. Mr. Ramirez will use strategies he learned as the Math Olympiad teacher to challenge students at a high level.

In Mrs. Chiaro’s class students will work in groups to read and discuss engaging text. They will also use the Writer’s Workshop model to create a variety of written pieces.

We are limited to 40 students for the lower class and 40 for the upper class. If you are interested sign up in the school office today!
