This year’s walk-a-thon will be held on Tues., Feb. 14th at 1:45 p.m. February is American Heart Month, so what better day than Valentine’s Day to hold this event! It’s a healthy activity that will offset the sweets of the day.

My school, Torrey Pines Elementary, is having a walk-a-thon on February 14th. The funds raised will help reduce class size and sustain our existing enrichment programs of library, art, computers, music, science, and P.E., which are no longer funded in part or in whole by the school district.
These programs mean a lot to me, and the money we raise from the walk-a-thon will help!!!

SPONSOR A SCHOOL FRIEND OR
AN ENTIRE CLASS!
If you wish to sponsor another child or an entire class just make a note on your child sponsorship form. For example: "I would like to donate $_____ to sponsor Mr. Kent's class" or "I would like to donate $___to sponsor Jane Doe." They will be recorded and counted.
When sponsoring online through PayPal simply put the name of the student or class in the "Student(s) sponsored is/are:" field.
HERE'S HOW IT WORKS
1. Before the actual event students will collect sponsors.
- Sponsors can either make a flat-rate donation or donate a dollar amount per lap walked.
- Letters will be sent home and are available for families to mail to out-of-town friends and family members. The walk-a-thon is a great way for far-away friends and family to help support our school.
- Flat-rate donations can be made by check to the order of TPES Foundation or through PayPal right here on our web site.
- All sponsor forms must be turned in by 9:30 a.m. on Feb. 14th for the student to be eligible for the prize.
2. The whole school will be walking at one time.
- There will be three circles: a smaller circle for Grades K-1, a larger circle for Grades 2-3, and the largest circle for Grades 4-5.
- The children will walk around the circle for 45 minutes, stopping to rest if necessary.
- During the event students will have cards, similar to those for Running Club, that parent volunteers will stamp/mark each time the student completes a lap.
3. At the end of the walk-a-thon laps will be tallied.
- A duplicate copy of the sponsor form will be given to each student in their classroom.
- The children will have until Fri., March 9th to collect and turn in their sponsor money.
- Winners will be announced at the Spirit Assembly on Tuesday, March 20th.
PRIZES!
Lots of prizes will be available for the children.
- A random drawing will be held the day of the event and a prize awarded to one boy and one girl in each grade group (grades K-1, 2-3, and 4-5) participating in the walk-a-thon.
- There will be a prize for the boy and the girl in each grade group (K-1, 2-3, and 4-5) who raised the most money.
- There will be a prize for the classes who turned in all their sponsorship money first.
- There will be a prize for the classes who have the most students pledged or sponsored.
