ERIN BROWN,
TPES Foundation President 2011-2012
Hello TPES families! What a privilege to be a part of such a tremendous Elementary School. Torrey Pines is not just an excellent elementary school, but a community and comfortable place for students and families to grow and learn. My husband Jeff and I have a daughter Malia in kindergarten, Alex is in third grade and Tyler is a 6th grader at Muirlands Middle School.
My kids have experienced such great opportunities both academically, and socially at Torrey Pines. As with all great things, making it happen at TPES takes dedication, collaboration and continuous effort! The unique programming at TPES begins with the dedication of Mr. Solo and his staff to providing TPES students with a very effective education program. As with any public elementary school, TPES has funding shortages, drawn-out school board determinations and state testing mandates, but TPES truly rises above these stumbling blocks to deliver an amazing education experience!
I believe parents should be involved in, and have a voice in the direction of their children’s education. I am committed to ensuring the Foundation continues to work collaboratively with Mr. Solo to evaluate how the Foundation can best support the unique programming and the educational experience at TPES. I believe that this is one way parents can be involved and have a voice!
My goal for this year is to support Mr. Solo in his efforts to bridge the gap between the district funded programming and the programming Mr. Solo and we as parents have come to consider necessary in providing the best learning and growing opportunities for our kids!

AMY HUNTER,
VP Fundraising
Hello and welcome to the 2011-2012 school year at Torrey Pines Elementary School. As VP of Fundraising my goal is to assist the foundation and our community in raising the funds required to give our children the most enriched learning opportunity.
I am the proud parent of a second grader and will have upcoming kindergartener in a couple of years. I am delighted and honored to be a part of this amazing community of students, staff/faculty and devoted parents. I am dedicated to making sure our school continues to provide all the countless extras we love about TPES. Through our fundraising efforts, the foundation provides funding for art, music, science, library, physical education, math enrichment, class size reduction, curriculum support, grade level enhancements, and much more. Given the current and future financial uncertainty of our public educational system in California, it is especially important that we continue to strive for excellence and continue providing these additional educational opportunities for all our students.
Every family, student, faculty and staff member greatly benefits from our fundraising efforts. There are many opportunities to participate throughout the school year. Please take a moment to familiarize yourself with our fundraising events on the website and please sign up to volunteer at one of our events. In addition to the many exciting fundraising events that take place throughout the year, we will also kick-off our Annual Fund Campaign in October. This is one of the most important fundraising campaigns of the school year. Its primary intention is to generate a significant percentage of our yearly fundraising goal through direct monetary contributions from our TPES families and community. Please watch for our exciting launch in October!
I encourage you to get involved in the unique and wonderful TPES community, which is unlike any other public elementary school. Please contact me with questions or suggestions at amhunter78@gmail.com.

CLARE HELLER,
F.A.C.E. Family & Community Events
Hello parents, my name is Clare Heller. This is my family’s sixth year at Torrey Pines Elementary School. I have two daughters and both attend Torrey Pines. My oldest daughter, Elizabeth, will begin 5th grade this year and my youngest daughter Emily will begin 3rd grade.
I grew up in a small village in England and went to a very small community school. For this reason I really appreciate the uniqueness of our school and how fortunate we are to be a part of it. My husband, Elliot, grew up in La Jolla and was also lucky enough to attend Torrey Pines. We both agree that a community feel is very important for our children to grow up in and we believe we have found it in Torrey Pines.
Therefore, I am very excited to be in charge of the Family and Community Events (FACE) this year. This involves planning fun, stress free, events for you and your family to enjoy while meeting other Torrey Pines families. These will include events at the school, such as movie night and holiday bingo night. Also, there will be some restaurant fund raiser evenings where you can come and eat with your Torrey Pines friends and a percentage of the proceeds are given back to the school.
Please keep an eye out for information in your weekly eTwig and flyers that come home regarding these events. I will also be reaching out for volunteers to help with some events. Please come along, have fun, and help make our great community even better. It’s going to be a great year. Contact me with any ideas, questions or comments, at clheller2@yahoo.com.

ALISON LEE,
Past President Advisor
After eight years at TPES, I graduated my third child on to Muirlands Middle School this past June. In our 8 years at Torrey Pines, I watched with pride as the school's results and reputation improved and my children and their friends thrived. And now with perspective from both Muirlands and La Jolla High School, I am both confident and comfortable with the preparation that TPES' teachers and administration have provided for my kids (Coleman in 11th grade, Helen in 8th and Sadie in 6th.) I have served on the TPES Foundation Board, co-chaired a couple of Spring Gala's, served on the Muirlands Foundation Board, and am now active with the LJHS PTA. I am also a founding board member of the La Jolla Cluster Association, representing Muirlands. I look forward to providing some historical perspective and helping the Torrey Pines Foundation in whatever way I can this year. I can be reached at alisonbowenlee@yahoo.com.
