This Month From the President
OCTOBER 2011

Our students are off to a great start!
TPES students are settling into their new classes, rotating to Music with Ms. Tang, Art with Mrs. Yzaguirre, PE with Coach Sergio, and Awesome Science with Ms. Isom.  Mrs. Lin is helping incorporate the laptops and technology into student curriculum!  Ms. Dailey is in the library every day to help students check out books and make good use of the library.
With the funds raised last year, the Foundation is funding class size reduction, Choral Music, Art, Technology, Literacy, Math Curriculum Enhancement, and more.  Class sizes remain at 24 or less in grades kindergarten through third grade, and fourth and fifth grade classes have 28 or less students.

October is a busy and fun filled month!
THANK YOU to all the volunteers who signed up to spend a few hours helping out at the La Jolla Art and Wine Festival fundraiser with La Jolla and Birdrock Elementary Schools with 100% of the proceeds split between the three schools.

Math Curriculum Night
I encourage parents to come to Math Curriculum night on October 19th and become informed on the TPES math program.  You may think that math is math, and our kids are learning the same stuff every other kid in their respective grade is learning.  YES, but it is HOW our kids are being taught, and the methods and attention that make math curriculum unique to TPES.  Mr. Solo and Brian Tash, TPES Foundation-funded Math facilitator  will speak, and you will visit your child's math class and teacher.  This is a very informative event!

Community Fun!
We are looking forward to a fun-filled Halloween weekend!  TPES families are invited to a movie night on the blacktop on Friday October 28th.  Bring a picnic dinner, chairs and blankets!  Kids and parents alike will enjoy this relaxed and fun event!

The Halloween Carnival
It's back!  We are so excited to be bringing back the TPES Halloween Carnival on Sunday, October 30th.  Please volunteer an hour or whatever you can to make this a success.  Manning a booth or helping at the cakewalk, ticket booth or redemption center is a fun way to interact with the kids while yours are having fun exploring the carnival!  If you cannot make the event, we need decorators, cake makers and volunteers to set up and breakdown the event.

Annual Fund Campaign Kickoff
The Annual Giving Campaign will kick off in October.  This is our largest fundraiser, in which the Foundation asks for cash donations that go directly toward supporting the specialty programming provided to every TPES student by the Foundation.  Our goal is to raise $100,000 from our Annual Fund Campaign, which will bring us closer to our total fundraising goal for the year of $256,500.  It is my hope that all families will participate in the Annual Fund Campaign.  We value each and every TPES family.   Whether it is $10, $100 or $1,000 every contribution helps make possible the incredible TPES experience!  Look for the Annual Fund Campaign materials in the mail!

Participate in the TPES Experience
I hope that TPES families feel drawn to participate in the TPES experience.  Not only have our TPES kids proven the benefits of enhanced programming in their test scores (TPES scored the highest in ALL of San Diego in the California Standardized Test last year), but they are happy and thrive at school too!   Our kids are experiencing academic excellence made possible by your generous donations, tireless volunteer hours, and involvement in your child's school life!  There is a lot going on!  I hope you will find one or more ways to be involved!  As always, please contact me if you have questions.  I would love to meet you if I have not already!  Happy Fall!
