SMILE is a student and parent run program that shows TPES kids how they can make a positive impact on their local and global communities by giving back.  It teaches kids the rewards of sharing and working together.  Over the 2011/2012 school year, SMILE will be sponsoring different opportunities to "give back" each month. All TPES children and families are encouraged to participate. If you or your child would like to help organize an activity, or if you just have a great idea, please contact Neha Bahadur at 619-519-9096 begin_of_the_skype_highlighting              619-519-9096      end_of_the_skype_highlighting. We are so grateful for your kindness and generosity!

OCTOBER
Halloween Costume Drive
Results
We received a gracious message from the Marine Base:

Thank you so much for your school's participation with this year's costume drive. Our team collected 300 costumes, which were made available to the families of Jr. Enlisted Marines at Miramar MCAB. Following the drive, we co-hosted a fall festival where the kids showed off their new costumes, enjoyed games, a petting zoo, hay rides and lots of treats! These events are such a wonderful way in which our community reaches out to local military families. Thank you for all your support and we look forward to working with you again next year!

Sincerely,
Tabitha Murray

Thank you to all who participated and helped support our local military families!

Holiday Food Drive
Results
TPES has a wonderful tradition of hosting an annual food drive.
This year, we worked with the San Diego Food Bank. This organization provides food to over 350,000 people per month in partnership with shelters, low-income day care centers, churches, schools, senior centers, and soup kitchens.
Thank you so much to all the TPES families that donated! Together we collected 214 bags of food for the San Diego Food Bank. So many needy families will be able to put food on the table this holiday season because of your generosity.

We are proud to announce The "Most Giving Grade at TPES" is our youngest grade, the Kindergarteners! They collected 46 bags of food! (3rd grade was a close second.) Way to go, everyone!

10th Annual Creek to Bay Cleanup
Saturday, April 28th, 9am - 12noon
La Jolla Shores
Last year, 5,350 volunteers spanned out across 75 coastal and inland cleanup sites throughout San Diego County, removing 80 tons of debris.  Not only did these volunteers protect communities countywide, but they additionally prevented marine debris caused by litter that travels from San Diego's creeks, streams and storm drains to the coast where it contaminates our bays and beaches. Let's get involved!
